Here I am at this cool campsite situated above a nicely flowing creek. I can hear it in the distance, which will make for some nice snoozing sounds. Additionally, this is the first night on the A.T. that has afforded a view of the stars. It is beautiful. There are also about 15 people here, including a group of two professors and about 6 students. They are on a trip for an outdoor backpacking class.
This site is at mile 14.5 which means I only covered about 2.8 miles today. After the foolishness of my Day 1 mileage, I was still in need of a short day. Also, waking up to a heavy chilly wind did not inspire an early rising. Didn’t leave the tent again until about 930 am and didn’t start hiking until 130pm. During that time, I was passed by close to 50 other hikers! Some stopped to say hi, and some I recognized from being at the hiker hostel.
Finally underway, I made really good time, arriving here at about 330pm. By the time I left, the chilly wind had given way to sunny skies! I actually got to use my new pair of cool shades. 🙂 I also passed a few cool vistas and took pictures. But you have to wait, per prior notification.
Tomorrow’s plan is to make it to Lance Creek Campsite which is about 10 miles from here. Although long, the terrain appears to be relatively gentle. I met a guy here, Ted, and we’re going to try and partner up for tomorrow. I hope our paces are similar as it is great to have a hiking partner.
Everyone here is now in there tents for the evening, as I sit outside mine writing this post and listening to the creek. I am having a great time, even if off to a slow start. But this is not a competition, it is a journey. A wandering journey…
Wandering off to sleep,
Kelly
Living through you, Kelly. Such an inspiration!
Sounds amazing!
Glad you finally got some sunny weather instead of just rain. The starry view was also probably pretty amazing. Keep on trekking and I will be looking for your next post to hear about your next day’s adventures.
Kelly, my Wandering Adventurer! Every day I look forward to reading your post…makes me feel like I am there with you. Remember your words it is not a competition, it is a journey (at your pace). And if you do 2 miles or 10…I am still so proud of you. The adventure continues…good day to you and bless every step you take. Smooches, Gail
