Day 21: Standing Indian Shelter to Betty Creek Gap

I’m in my tent, it’s 830pm and it is raining cats and dogs!!! In this area there are tent sites near the A.T. but when I got here at 530pm, most were taken. There’s a side trail that leads to the creek here that also has tent sites. I’m at one of those with one other tent nearby. I shot a video inside the tent for both a “tent tour” and so you could hear what it sounds like!

The day started good! Out of tent by 650am and hiking by 1030am. A lot of my morning time gets wasted while having coffee, when I’m chatting with other hikers. They are actually getting packed while talking, whereas me – I’m drinking coffee. But hey, it’s fun.

And besides that, I just busted out my longest day yet – 11.2 miles! And that’s not counting a side trip to Standing Indian Mountain’s summit. It also doesn’t count the off trail mileage to this tent site. With those added, I did 11.6 miles. Yay!

The day itself was light rain all day long and the visibility was about 100 feet. Thick grey soup, in other words. It made for great hiking weather,  oddly enough. However, several scenic spots were robbed of their splendor. Oh well, I took pictures and video anyway.

The other tent here wasn’t being sociable, so I took dinner back to the other tent sites. Some others came out and we had a short social. Then the bottom dropped out which led me back to my tent where I now type.

Tomorrow I hike either 9 miles or 12 miles. If 9, I camp. If 12, I go back to Franklin but only for the night. Which happens depends on…. well, how far I get. Lol

Good night and sorry you didn’t get this real time. There is no signal here!

Wandering on…

Kelly

  1. Hi there, Kel! I just wanted to pop in and say hello. Sounds like things are moving along (so to speak) very nicely. This Sunday is Easter so if you’re in Franklin I hope you can find some green beans and ham! Was always your favorite Easter meal at Grandmama’s. I gotta say, following along on the Spot map is great! Love you.
