Well, I didn’t make the 15 mile day I’d planned. I made it here at Pecks Corner Shelter at 400pm which was plenty of time to cover the extra 5 miles to Tri Corner Gap Shelter.
So what happened? I made a bad call, that’s what! Just as I arrived here the weather looked like it was making a turn for the worse. The skies darkened and the wind started gusting hard. Rain and thunderstorms were forecast to hit some time between between 3 and 6 and I figured it was here.
The shelter had plenty of space so I went ahead and setup. So what happens? Not more than 10 minutes after I setup, the skies clear and the sun comes out! Dammit!
So there is no way I can catch MotMot and Zeeba at Standing Bear Hostel tomorrow night. Well, that’s not entirely true. I could catch them if I busted out a 23 mile day. But I don’t see that happening. I will have to space out my days now to probably skip the hostel, them catch them in Hot Springs.
As far as my hiking and mood, today was excellent. I was hiking with what I call “good attack.” That just means hiking with intent, having a good positive read on the trail and just feeling good about every step. Mojo had good hiking mojo today. Yay!
So it looks like tomorrow can either be a 13 mile day or a 17 mile day. Well, it could be a 23, but I just don’t see it. So hindsight as they say is 20/20… I wish I’d pushed to Tri Corner, but this is where I am. Tomorrow I will hike with good attack again, regardless of where I end.
Wandering on…
Mojo
